Wondering what to put on your baby registry? What will you really need? It is easy to get wrapped up in the excitement and want it all!
Here are eight surprisingly useful items, you may not think of, to include on your baby registry…
1) LAMP DIMMER
This idea comes via Mom.me and a brilliant one it is! When you have to get up several times in the middle of the night, you will not want a bright light shining in yours or your baby’s face. No matter what lamp you are using, a dimmer can help tone it down so you don’t get too woken up to go back to sleep. Simply plug the lamp into the dimmer and the dimmer cord into the wall. Set it at the desired level of brightness and Ta Da, your eyes are saved!
2) Breast Pump
This one is a great investment and can save you a ton of frustration. You will need some expressed milk for times when you are not with your baby to nurse. Some doctors may suggest pumping early on to share feedings or give yourself some free time, but according to La Leche League (specialists and experts in breast milk and breastfeeding, which most doctors are not):
La Leche League believes that mother and baby need to be together early and often to establish a satisfying relationship and an adequate milk supply. Milk expression [pumping] is only necessary if mother and baby are separated for some reason — such as hospitalization or going back to work — or to maintain the mother’s milk supply if the baby is unable to nurse effectively. ~La Leche League International
Baby was surrounded by lots of sound inside the womb. A white noise machine may help him or her sleep now on the outside. If you Baby is sleeping in your bedroom, a white noise machine may help you sleep deeper, too. Give it a try! Some parents swear by it, others can’t stand it.
Keep that air clean and moisturized for Aaby. A cool mist humidifier will make those dry winter months much easier on baby’s skin and sinuses. Check reviews and get a parent approved humidifier that will last.
5) Boppy Pillow
This will be an invaluable resource when you need to put baby down safely while you complete chores around the house. You can keep an eye on baby while he or she sits comfortable on the Boppy. It also works great to help you nurse your baby comfortably.
6) DIAPER BAG
A great diaper bag is essential for taking baby on the go. You will want one that is sturdy and easy to organize. You can also purchase travel packing cubes for additional organizing options. When you are looking for something in your bag organization is key.
This one sometimes gets overlooked and may not be necessary for a newborn, but is great once baby gets a little bigger. You can pack up and move around while still keeping baby in a contained area. Wonderful for visiting family or spending time outdoors.
Maybe you thought about the pump and nursing bra, but don’t forget that you may get sore. These gel pads can provide cool and instant relief for your sore breasts. Wear them in between feedings, but only use as necessary. Excessive cold on your breasts may reduce your milk supply!
