We all know that drinking water, in general, is a great idea. But did you know that drinking a lot of water during pregnancy is vital to your and your baby’s health?
Here are some of the benefits of drinking a lot of water during pregnancy and why you should go get a glass right now.
Pregnancy is beautiful and uncomfortable at the same. Yes, you are carrying and growing your own child but you are also experiencing less-than-enjoyable side effects. Many women experience pooping problems while pregnant in the form of constipation. Drinking plenty of water will keep everything moving smoothly and can prevent hemorrhoids and UTI’s as well.
Water is the healthiest, most natural drink around. It is essential to carrying oxygen and nutrients to all of the organs and cells in your body.
It may seem like the opposite is true, but drinking more water will help your body retain less water which means less swelling and disappearing ankles for you. Keeping your legs looking and feeling normal is one of many benefits of drinking a lot of water during pregnancy.
Dehydration is dangerous for everyone but most especially a pregnant woman. Dehydration can cause headaches, drastic blood pressure changes, and possible fainting, especially in hot weather. Water will even keep your amniotic fluid to a healthy level and help you baby’s kidneys doing their job in the womb. Hydration is especially important when exercising, and one of the benefits of drinking a lot of water during pregnancy.
Vital in the Third Trimester
Lack of water in your body can cause contractions, potentially sending you into preterm labor which can be dangerous for both you and baby. If all the other reasons before weren’t enough, this should be the one reason to get you drinking. We all want a healthy, full term baby.
Don’t like water or having a hard time keeping up a good intake? Don’t worry just yet. You can get water from food sources or other beverages. Fruit and vegetables contain water as well all decaffeinated beverages. Celery, watermelon, and oranges are wonderful for hydration and healthy snacks.
Keep a water bottle with you at all times which will remind you to drink water. Aim to drink at least 10 8-ounce glasses of water a day while pregnant. Sure, you may be running to the bathroom more often than you already are but you won’t regret drinking enough water and feeling great during pregnancy. The benefits of drinking a lot of water during pregnancy clearly outweigh the risks.
